In 2018 Friends of Lake Wingra partnered with Monarchs for Kids to promote environmental stewardship and awareness in children’s lives through hands-on experiences. A Besadny grant from the Natural Resource Foundation is helping fund our participation in the 2018-2019 school year.
Why Monarchs? Our mission is to promote a healthy watershed through an active community. Monarchs for Schools gives people an opportunity to be active and connect with nature and wildlife. Monarchs are in severe decline and Wisconsin is one of many homes to monarchs. We use the monarch as an “ambassador species” to provide an opportunity to discuss important environmental topics including human and wildlife health, habitat protection, pesticides, and climate
