For those yet unaware of this upcoming event, you are invited to the Watershed Network workshop called Our Future Watershed and Well-Being on the evening of November 19th. This will be an opportunity for watershed groups to discuss how they can play a role in creating a desirable future–and what that might look like. We hope further related activities will emerge from it. Details are below, in the attached flyer, and at this link. Registration is required, but free. Snacks will be provided. I hope to see many of you there.
Best,
Jenny Seifert

What kind of future do we want for the Yahara Watershed, and how can we get there?

Join the Dane County Office of Lakes and Watersheds and scientists from the UW-Madison’s Water Sustainability and Climate Project for a discussion of possible futures.

Envisioning desirable futures is crucial to creating a resilient watershed and ensuring the well-being of future generations. One tool to assist long-term thinking is fictional but plausible stories about the future, called scenarios.

This workshop will present Yahara 2070, a set of scenarios about the Yahara Watershed in the year 2070. Attendees will discuss the scenarios and how they could be useful to watershed groups in working toward desirable futures.

The event is for members of watershed groups who are interested in how they can play an active role in creating a desirable future that includes clean lakes and waterways.

Discussion leaders will include:

  • Steve Carpenter, Director, UW-Madison Center for Limnology
  • Chris Kucharik, Associate Professor of Agronomy and Environmental Studies, UW-Madison
  • Jenny Seifert, Science Writer/Outreach Coordinator, WSC Project, UW-Madison
  • Nik Simonson, Community Engagement Specialist, Dane County Office of Lakes and Watersheds
  • Sue Jones, Watershed Management Coordinator, Dane County Office of Lakes and Watersheds

This workshop is free, but registration is required.
